Galway Group Water Scheme DBO Bundle No.2 – Official Opening
On the 1st of June 2012, the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan officially opened the Galway GWS DBO Bundle No.2 at the Kiltiernan GWS Co-operative Society Ltd water treatment plant. The Minister, in conjunction with Galway Mayor Michael Maher, County Manager, Martina Moloney and Fine Gael TD, Ciaran Cannon, arrived to Kiltiernan water treatment plant at approximately 1pm where they were greeted by the local Kiltiernan National School and Trad Band. The Minister then unveiled the Kiltiernan GWS Co-operative Society Ltd plaque, and received an official tour of the water treatment plant by Glan Agua Ltd Managing Director Karl Zimmerer.
The Official Opening then moved to the Lough Rea Hotel, where all members of the Galway GWS DBO Bundle No.2 were invited to attend the official presentation of their water treatment plant plaque. The National Federation of Group Water Schemes, Galway County Council Members in conjunction with the Minister and his associates presented each member of the bundle with a plaque, after a presentation and speech.
Glan Agua Ltd were commemorated throughout the Opening Ceremony for the “state of the art” facilities that were constructed at each of the water treatment plants. The Galway GWS DBO Bundle No.2 involved the completion of 16 water treatment schemes in County Galway, which were constructed in conjunction with our Main Civil Contractor and Sister Company, MEIC Ltd. There were 24 sites throughout County Galway, and they varied from previously developed to green field sites. Each group water scheme was continuously supplying water to all members of the scheme, therefore this project necessitated the requirement to maintain the schemes production during the construction works and the restriction on supply interruptions during the changeover process. On this basis, this project required close cooperation between Glan Agua Ltd, Galway County Council, NFGWS and the Group Water Scheme to ensure the seamless construction and integration of all facilites.

The involvement of the local school children was the high point on the open day and it is with regret that I am unable / unwilling to load these photos. If any parent wishes a copy of our pictures I am delighted to pass them on but please make the request through the school. I make this request out of courtsey to the school as they graciously accompanied the children and I do not wish to infringe on any safety policies the school may have and also it is the safest way I have to ensure that the photos do not get distributed to 3rd parties without the permision of the childrens parents.
